So much in such a small amount of time

It’s been forever since we’ve posted on our blog - so much has happened - First off I want to thank all of our contest participants and announce the R2 Anthology winner. Congratulations to David Gilbertson for “the funniest” photo, and to Michal Ging for “the most creative”. Each has been awarded a spectacular, professionally guided (by Colorado River Discovery), half-day river float trip for two, down the mighty Colorado River.

Congratulations are also in order for both Maureen Salloom, who took the lead in the category of most photos submitted with her whoppin’ 21 submissions, and Jeff Concors who documented his trip to Kiev, Ukraine to beat out the competition for the category of farthest traveled. Both will receive a miscellaneous summer goody bag that will come in handy for their next vacation.

Secondly this years R2 company dinner was held at L Amore Restorante 3159 East Lincoln Drive, Phoenix, AZ (602) 381-3159 - the food was excellent and the company was even better - here are a few pictures of the event.

Thirdly we want to thank Stephanie Kegley Scott for including us in The New Foundation’s 1st Annual Golf Classic, it was a great event (a little cold in the morning but turn out to be a nice day) with great attendance and believe it or not we three guys and Richie from Panoramic Press took third place.

Well that should wrap it up for now - Happy Holiday’s to all and well Blauugh you next year.

this is an experiment and you are part of it…

I thought all of you creatives and non-creatives alike would appreciate this. ‘Someguy,’ the creator of this social experiment, actually came to ASU this past semester to talk about how this came to be. He explains it best, “The 1000 Journals Project is an ongoing collaborative experiment attempting to follow 1000 journals throughout their travels. The goal is to provide a method for interaction and shared creativity among friends and strangers.” Basically, if you find a journal you add to it and pass it on, like an anonymous chain-letter. There’s something about being anonymous that allows people to be honest; the entries are just that. Check it out on www.1000journals.com

Everyones can be a graphic designer.

Whether we like it or not the business is changing, clients want a means to update there digital media message, and don’t want to pay a ton to do so. - Just a few years ago it was taboo for a designer to create a Powerpoint presentation, I mean god forbid we use any Microsoft products and If you have a PC you’d best hide it in the back room under the interns desk. YES, we create snappy looking Powerpoint - Word - Publisher templates for our clients and yes we do have a PC, (I’ll bet you can guess where it resides.) A couple of years ago it hit me like a ton of t-squares, our clients want and we provide is our motto and believe it or not, we still get payed our hourly rate to create in Office and or CS4. The best thing of all is that we don’t have to suffer through the bad clipart and 18 pt brush script with fluorescent pie charts.

There are people still in the industry that just want to create logos and really bitchin brochures, who wouldn’t, but…. now that the brochures quantities have gone from printing 10,000 to only 100 (if your lucky and the end product is not just an optimized PDF) and you can buy a crappy logo on-line for $69, we have to differentiate ourselves as offering more then good design, we need to offer a thought process that ultimately produces great design. I’m sold on the fact that its the simple creative process and flexible services that keep clients coming back.

Branding a National Monument

R Squared recently paired with the Rainbow Bridge National Monument in northern Arizona to create an identity for their upcoming 100th anniversary (the 100th anniversary of the designation of the park, not of the actually place; we’re sure that has been around longer than 100 years). Designed to resemble a ranger’s patch, the identity uses the blues and reds found at the park.

An Athletic Logo

R Squared recently completed an identity for Frisbee Golf company “Chain Seeker”. Aimed at merchandising and other frisbee golf related goods, this logo really hits frisbee golf’s unique target audience.
