So much in such a small amount of time

It’s been a busy past couple of weeks - with Volleyball state finals - Saxon’s Prom(s) - Short Film events and award and The Suns pulled off a great win last night against the LA Snakers.

The Moutain Pointe mens varsity volleyball team went 27-10 5A Div. 1 and made it the the final 8 in State but lost a heart breaker to Salpointe in Tucson.

We had back to back Prom’s to contend with but the kids had a blast and as you can see “boys will be boys” - YES they did have dates. The cool thing they did was went from house to house for the different meal courses - thanks to the Winchesters for the sweet dessert.

I think we have a movie producer in the making - First the 14th Annual ASU Art Museum Short Film and Video Festival - AZ Award winner - selected from 497 entries from 39 States and 33 Nations. And then… “The final results are in, and we’re proud to present the recipients of Phoenix New Times’ first-ever Big Brain Awards.” The winners in five categories — plus a surprise sixth winner — were announced Saturday, May 22 at New Times’ 40th Anniversary Party at MADCAP Theaters in Tempe. Winners receive $1000 (per category) Saxon took home the Film award. For his award winning (yes I can say that now) short film “Send Greener Grass Uphill “

And the best for last “The Suns defended their home court Sunday and defeated the Lakers 118-109 in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals. Amar’e Stoudemire led all scorers with 42 points. Robin Lopez added 20 points.”

You’re Defying Logic

What’s the best part about going on vacation? The time off work? The fun? The relaxation? Absolutely not, the best part of vacation is the plane ride, because that means a meeting with my good friend The Sky Mall catalogue. Just pages and pages of stupid stuff no one would ever ever want. Dog in a suitcase? Gigantic crossword puzzle designed to finally kill off grandma? An authentic popcorn cart (really?) But, nothing had ever come close of course to topping the ultimate skymall product; zombie escaping from the garden.

However, yesterday on the plane I found something that might shake the zombie off the “worst product” mantle. A true example of how important a competent design firm is to your business. A stark reminder that do it yourself or discount design will do nothing but hurt your companies’ face and presentation to potential customers. I present to you, Gravity Defyer Shoes:

Who who who, thought to themselves that we want a series of athletic shoes and we want to brand them like Nike. Except instead of a swoosh….. we want to use a sperm. People will love to rock sperms on their shoe! In fact, we should make our logo two sperms. Seriously, tell me I am wrong, what else could it be? What the hell were they thinking?!

Supposedly the Nike swoosh was an icon drawn on a napkin by Phil Knight’s secretary and has become one of the world’s most recognizable brands. So I envision the Gravity Defyer design process went down something like…. the CEO’s 6 year old blind niece drew this in her 1st grade art class with crayons and construction paper and threw a tempertantrum until daddy used it on the shoes. Or maybe a 6 year old is the ceo. Or maybe it was a bar bet between two drunk college frat boys. I don’t really know how this came to be and frankly I don’t really care, but more I’m just emploring to all of you. GET A REAL DESIGNER! Otherwise you might end up with sperm shoes.

Suns are peaking at just the right time.

Chauncey who? What a great Suns game last night shared with some really fungi(s) - The Suns scored 70 on the McNuggets at half and I’m pretty sure everyone on the Suns team had at least one trey. Louis Amundson had a monster dunk as you can see anyone can look good draped in eye candy.

Got 2 love those clients with a sense of humor

Seems that our clients just want to have fun. We’ve had great success with our last couple of self-promos. The first being our R2 Anthology. Participation was a huge factor in this one, and believe it or not, most clients found time to submit their creative photography even in the midst of a time famine. The second was our holiday self-promo, alias the “Rshameless Holidy 09, this year it’s all about us.” One client, we won’t mention names, but otherwise known as “the vandal” had his own kind of fun.

Others were more tasteful in their submissions, and even promoted some of R2’s work, (although we could have done with out the wienerschnitzel dog.)

Oh now the hard question, what to do next?
